SOL FOOD IS ON MY 'EAT THIS BEFORE YOU DIE' LIST
I don’t come here as often as I would like to, but I am mad crazy over the mouth-watering sandwiches and sweet plantains here at Sol Food restaurant. It is one of my ALL TIME top restaurants in the Bay Area and IN LIFE. You’ll find Puerto Rican inspired dishes served inside a colorful facade giving you a taste of the Caribbean. Simple ingredients turned into amazing food in a chill vibe.
WHAT TO ORDER
MADUROS - Yellow plantains fried and coated in sweet glaze. Lightly crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. Someone find me a place in SF that serves plantains this good!!!
BISTEC SANDWICH - Toasted bread pressed with thinly sliced steak, melted swiss cheese, caramelized onions, avocado and garlic mayo. I don’t get blown away by sandwiches often, but this one was unforgettable. The juices from the flame-broiled meat is the shining star here. It really brings out the flavors of all the other toppings. With every bite, you pick up everything which is pretty much the criteria for the perfect sandwich. You really can’t go wrong with any of the other sandwiches either. The pan-fried pork chop sandwich (CHULETON) and the Cubano are equally satisfying.
One of the few places I would stand in a long line for, I highly recommend this spot for lunch or dinner in the North Bay. A must stop on your drive to or from Napa or Sausalito. There are 2 locations: the bigger space is in San Rafael, but there’s also one in Mill Valley. If they ever expand and open in SF, I will be the first one in line.
